I first played these two tunes together with Marc Desormeaux, a talented composer and guitarist, at a concert in Chelsea, QC, on my 18th birthday in 2011. Marc was very meticulous with his accompaniment—there was so much attention to detail in his chord choices, his awareness of the shapes of the melodies, and the emotions I was attempting to bring out of the tunes. Playing with Marc was magical. This performance made me realize I wanted to perform music for the rest of my life, and opened my ears to the many subtleties found in traditional music and how big a difference they can make. This was also the last time I would see Marc before he passed away a couple years later. I will always think of him whenever I play these tunes.
